Weeks old llamas in a pasture with their mothers. Divine Llama Vineyards is located at 5349 Macedonia Road in East Bend, NC. Their tasting room opened 2009, the winery produces 1,000 cases annually and they offer nine varieties.

The joint concept came when two students meet in college at Virginia Tech in 1975 and later start their own architectural firms in Winston-Salem. Years later, Michael West was hunting a parcel of land to launch a small llama-raising operation. Tom Hughes was looking for land to plant a few vines and make a little wine. They discovered a large parcel west of Winston-Salem. “It was more land and more buildings than either family was interested in owning,” says Hughes. “But, parceling it out, we found both families could live there together.”
