Monica Hernandez- Southwest Guilford
Monica Hernandez graduated June 8 from Southwest Guilford, ranked 20th in a class of nearly 400 seniors. This fall, she’ll start at her dream school – Wake Forest University. To defray the costs, she has earned a scholarship offered to gifted seniors who are first-generation college students. And Monica is. She’s also captain of the school's cross-country team, a service-learning ambassador, and editor of the Southwest Guilford yearbook, Horizons. And now, she’s a Magnolia Scholar at WFU. “To this day,” she says, “it hasn’t hit me yet. But there are moments where I’ll go, ‘Wow, I’ll actually be at Wake Forest for the next four years.’”
